CCTV captures man 'abducting' child from street as grandmother uses bathroom

Surveillance cameras captured a man allegedly snatching a pram with a baby inside as the girl's grandmother went to the bathroom.

The alleged kidnapping took place in under three minutes on the streets of Nanchang, China, on the afternoon of December 4.

Local media have identified the grandmother as Ms Xu and said she had gone to the bathroom for three minutes and left the child alone in the pram.

In the video, a man holding onto a piece of sugar cane saw the baby and swooped on the pram and child up, casually walking away as an oblivious crowd nearby continues to mingle.

He pushed the pram across a road and down another small street.

Local police tracked the man, identified as Zhou, through surveillance cameras and stopped him after he boarded a bus where they rescued the child.

Police said he was already a suspect in robberies in the area.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the alleged attempted abduction.
