Terrifying video shows teen knifeman lunging into crowd

WARNING - DISTRESSING CONTENT: The terrifying moment a teenager in Nevada lunged into a crowd of students holding two knives has been caught on camera.

The distressing video then shows the teen lying on the ground after being shot.

Police have confirmed that a Washoe County School District police officer shot a 14-year-old at Procter R. Hug High School in Reno on December 7 at about 11.30am, according to KOLO 8.

The news outlet claims a video on social media depicts a teenager prior to the shooting holding two knives but that authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities have said there had been some kind of "disturbance" at the high school campus prior to the incident.

7 News reports it is believed the teenager had been in a fight earlier on Wednesday.

It has been reported that the student who was shot was transported in a critical condition to hospital.

Authorities have said as many as 40 students saw the shooting unfold.

Reuters reports that Reno Police spokesman officer Tim Broadway said media reports were false that claimed the shooting was a response to one student stabbing another.

It is understood the officer who shot the student is to be placed on administrative leave.
