WATCH: Cop pulls gun on alleged thieves in AFL star's stolen Porsche

A police officer was filmed with his gun drawn as he desperately tried to drag a thief from a luxury car, allegedly stolen from an AFL player's Melbourne home.

Two men have been arrested and another is on the run after the Porsche Macan was taken from Hawthorn player Brendan Whitecross’ Croydon home.

The offenders allegedly entered the house about 2am and stole the car keys before a barking dog sent them fleeing and waking those inside the home.

“I chased him out the door and watched him jump in the car and take it for a bit of a spin around Melbourne,” Brendan Whitecross told 7 News.

The thieves fled through a window as the premiership player chased them, taking off in another stolen car before pulling a U-turn to come back and steal the $130,000 Porsche.

The first car was set on fire around the corner.

Seven News captured the moment an armed officer made a desperate plea to access the Porsche, but the doors were locked and a green traffic light allowed the driver to speed off.

The officers returned to their car to resume the chase, grabbing items dropped on the road.

Emergency lanes on both sides of the road, provided a clear path to speed past traffic, as the chase briefly went off-road swerving around trucks and over kerbs.

Occasionally the driver followed road rules stopping at the lights, but not for long.

The Porsche quickly disappeared inside The Glen shopping centre in Glen Waverley before it was dumped and the thieves attempted their escape on foot.

They made it no more than 200m from the car before they were nabbed, with police yelling “where are your mates?” after catching one of the accused.

Another was found moments later in a backyard and marched to a van, looking unimpressed by the quick actions of police.

A 21-year-old from Wantirna and a 20-year-old from Wantirna South were both arrested.

“They’ve pretty much invaded our space and violated our privacy,” Mr Whitecross said.

“Probably seems like it’s done a couple of laps of Bathurst the way it’s been flogged.”

Mr Whitecross was worried about the condition of his car, claiming windows were smashed and the inside was littered with cigarettes and syringes.
