The girlfriend of a man shot by police during an alleged hostage situation says the accused was “really nice” to her and she would never have thought he would hurt his children.

“To me, he was actually really nice,” she said. “Cooking me dinner, [he] bought me gifts.”

It’s alleged Hall held his ex-partner and their children hostage in Hindley Street, pointing a gun at his three-year-old daughter.

But Ms Fischer-Dvorsky said the man she knows would never hurt his children.

“When (Hall) talked about his kids, all he could talk about was love,” she said.

“He said they were what made him happy.”

It is understood Hall and his ex-partner only separated recently, after they were kicked out of a rental home over a lack of payment.

Ms Fischer-Dvorsky said she was left stunned when Hall was shot by officers during the stand off.

“To see it all over the news, and then I stupidly watched the video where he go shot,” she said.

“It’s been very tough.”

Hall had surgery for gunshot wounds to his leg and arm on Tuesday and remains in hospital.
