WATCH: Mother shields toddler from vicious dog mauling outside their front door
A terrified mother has managed to shield her two-year-old son as two dogs viciously attacked them outside their home.
Horrifying CCTV filmed the mother trying to save the toddler in California on Tuesday (local time).
The dogs set upon the boy in their front yard.
His quick-thinking mother rushed to his rescue and tried to drag him inside their home to safety. Unfortunately she was unable to find her keys before the dogs unleashed their attack.
The video shows the mother immediately protect her child, shielding him from the dogs.
The woman was heard screaming for help and two neighbours rushed to their aid.
One woman used a stick to fight the dogs off, according to the boy’s father.
The pair were able to get inside their home and call 911.
The toddler was rushed to hospital and is recovering from severe injuries.
He was left with cuts to his face, leg and he needed multiple stitches.
The boy’s father told KTLA News that his child would need plastic surgery.
“There are no words to explain how you feel, unless you have a child and see your child or wife go through something like that. My wife is a hero,” he told reporters.
The boy’s mother suffered minor injuries and is recovering.
The dogs were taken into custody and an investigation will look into their history.
The owner may be charged following the investigation.
