Student has leg amputated after teacher 'slammed him to the floor' multiple times

A 13-year-old boy has had his leg amputated after he was allegedly “thrown to the floor” multiple times by a teacher in the US state of Georgia.

The incident occurred at Edgewood Student Services Center during Montravious Thomas’ first day in the AIM program – a class for ‘disruptive’ students who have been taken out of their regular schools.

Thomas had attempted to leave the classroom to phone his mother when the teacher on duty, Bryant Mosley, stopped him and slammed him to the floor, attorney Renee Tucker said.

Ms Tucker claims the incident was partially witnessed by the centre’s assistant principal, but it wasn’t reported and an ambulance wasn’t called for the boy.

Instead, Mosley carried the boy, who could not walk properly after the assault, to a school bus and sent him home.

The school did not notify the boy’s family of the altercation.

Thomas said his leg began to feel numb, and he was airlifted to a hospital in Atlanta where he underwent a series of operations.

On Sunday, the family was informed that the boy’s leg would have to be amputated as a result of nerve damage and poor blood circulation.

To make matters worse, the boy’s mother lost her job at a temp agency because of the amount of time she spent at the hospital.

Bryant has not yet been charged in relation to the incident.
