Gas explosion injures at least 77 people in Spain

A gas explosion near a cafe in Spain has left at least 77 people injured, according to officials.

The incident occurred in the popular tourist town of Velez-Malaga in the country's south on Saturday afternoon, BBC reported.

The blast reportedly went off during a local street festival, leaving the are littered with chairs, crumpled stalls and debris, according to Reuters.

A spokesperson for the region's emergency response unit said five people suffered serious injuries.

The extent of the injuries are still unknown. No deaths have been reported as yet.
