'Storm Coaster': People rescued from Sea World roller coaster

Passengers who were stuck on a broken down roller coaster called 'The Storm Coaster' at Sea World on the Gold Coast have been rescued.

Early reports suggested the ride malfunctioned due to high winds in the area.

Sea World staff had been talking to those stranded on the ride with passengers giving the "thumbs up" to the 7 News helicopter.

Several people could be seen walking along the siding to the track and exiting the ride via a nearby ladder.

Rescue efforts by several Sea World staff saw the passengers freed without injury a spokesperson told Yahoo7.

A spokesperson for Sea World also told Yahoo7 "a sensor fault occurred, leading to the ride's safety systems being engaged."

"The safety and wellbeing of all of our guests is our top priority and our highly trained staff ensured the safest outcome was achieved with the guests led down the stairs to ground level without incident.

"Similar to theme parks around the world, stoppages are part of ride operating systems which have rigid safety mechanisms in place.

"The ride will reopen after the fault is cleared and operating checks are completed."
