Battered and bruised: Elderly man bashed during alleged home invasion

Horrific images have been released by police of an elderly man with a battered, bruised and bleeding face, following a violent home invasion in Victoria.

Since the shocking attack Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a Corio man following the aggravated burglary at a residence in Hamlyn Heights on 22 August, 2016.

The 67-year-old victim was in lounge room of his home when he heard someone come through the front door of his Chaucer Street residence just before 7pm.

The victim initially believed it was his 93-year-old father however was instead allegedly confronted by a man wielding a knife who then began threatening him.

According to police the victim was then pushed to the ground and then allegedly brutally beaten around the head and was left injured with severe bruising and swelling.

Following the attack the victim’s 93-year-old father ran out of the home to get help from a neighbour who then raised the alarm.

The offender ran from the scene and jumped the rear fence to get away according to police.

Victorian police have since arrested and charged a 19-year-old Corio man.

According to Victoria Police the man was arrested at a home in Hendy St, Corio.

The man was charged with the following offences: Aggravated burglary, armed robbery, intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury and assault with a weapon.

He was remanded in custody and will appear before the Geelong Magistrates Court on 13 January 2017.

However according to various reports his lawyer is likely to apply for bail before that date.
