‘Sorry’: Bizarre home invasion with apologetic intruder
Seven News has obtained chilling security video of a bizarre home invasion.
The intruder can be heard apologising when he's confronted by the occupant, before fleeing empty handed.
In the dark of the night, a masked man appears in Kevin Cameron's lounge room.
It's eight o'clock so he probably thinks no one is home. Little does he know Mr Cameron is sleeping in the next room.
"I've heard some noise in the house which has sort of woken me up and I could hear the stairs creaking,” Mr Cameron told Seven News.
“I've turned on the light of my iPhone, [and] I've opened up my bedroom door.”
That's when he came face-to-face with the intruder.
The video shows Mr Cameron saying "What the f***'s going on?", to which the intruder replies: "Sorry."
Mr Cameron then said: “Hey! Get the f*** out of here mate! F***!”
"[He] just stood in front of me, looked directly at me and said 'sorry' and then he's just bolted,” Mr Cameron said of the interaction.
After chasing the intruder down two sets of stairs, Mr Cameron knew he had him cornered in the rear courtyard.
He considered following him as he scrambled up and over a high wall, but thought better of it.
“Do I really want to corner this rat?" Mr Cameron said.
"At what point does he think that he's in danger and then he fights back?"
Mr Cameron has given the video to police.
“Ideally I’d like to catch the, can I say mongrel?"
In the meantime, he is sleeping with a shovel by his bed.
The would-be robber has earned himself a new nickname.
"My mum's calling him the sorry thief,” added Mr Cameron.
