'Sizing us up for dinner': Great white shark circles father and son in tinnie

Among the Atlantic Ocean's calm and inviting blue waters, a father and son have filmed the tense moment they watched a shark circle their tinnie.

James Gibbons and his son were in a motor boat in Cape Cod, Massachusetts at 7:30am on August 28, when the nail-biting incident took place.

The terrifying ordeal happened at Race Point Beach, which is close to where the fictional Amity Island was filmed in the production of Jaws.

In the footage, seagulls chirp and soar over the calm blue waters that were slightly rippled from the wind.

But, beneath the deep-blue waters, the fearsome predator swam around the family's boat and circled them for over five minutes.

In a bizarre twist of fear and excitement, Mr Gibbons and his son discussed the extraordinary predator that was within arm's reach of their tiny boat.

"He's lurking around us, he's like, sizing us up for dinner," Mr Gibbons told his son.

But like-father-like son, the youngster was, if anything, more excited at the remarkable sighting and lunged toward the end of the boat to keep an eye on the shark.

"He's right there! The Great White shark! Oh My God! Are you recording this?"

The boy was more excited than his father over the remarkable sighting.

Mr Gibbons told his son not to go too close to the edge and refrained him from swearing.

"He's going to eat one of these birds," the little boy said. "He's circling the boat."

"Here he comes again," Mr Gibbons said. "He keeps getting closer and closer."

The youngster asked his dad if they can leave the area before he said, "finally i get to see a shark".
