Identity of paedophile questioned over Beaumont children now revealed

A former scout leader and convicted paedophile questioned over the disappearance of the Beaumont children in the 1960s has been revealed as Anthony Allan Munro.

There is no evidence Munro was involved in the abductions.

Munro has pleaded guilty to 10 sex crimes against two boys unrelated to the Beaumont case, with one of those crimes at Glenelg and Rapid Bay over a four-year period.

A decade later Munro abused the second boy, a 12-year-old, again in Glenelg and then Kangaroo Island over another four years.

The guilty pleas came at an unscheduled court hearing held early last month.

The confessed child sex crimes in Glenelg in the mid-1960s spanned the time Grant, Arna and Jane Beaumont disappeared.

Munro was interviewed by police in relation to the Beaumont children disappearance when he returned to Adelaide in July.

He has never been charged over the disappearance.

Before his return to the country, Munro had been living in Cambodia for eight years.

Cambodian authorities are now investigating whether the 71-year-old was involved in child abuse at his lady boy bar which helped finance orphanages in Asia.

Munro, who’s already served a jail sentence for abusing an 11-year-old boy in 1990, will front court again in October.
