Aussie bank adds optional women’s headscarf to uniform

A major Australian bank has designed hijabs to go with its staff uniform as a way to encourage diversity.

Westpac enlisted the help of fashion queen Carla Zampatti to introduce a corporate Muslim hijab, or headscarf, to its official uniform.

The big joins Commonwealth Bank and Optus who have already included the hijab in its uniforms.

“This is one way we can show that we accept and recognize people of all cultures,” Westpac spokesperson Ainslie van Onselen said.

Westpac says the hijab may not appeal to everyone but backs the new uniform addition.

“We’ve spoken to our people and the feedback has been really positive,” Ms van Onselen said.
