'The time for mercy has passed': Court urged to jail step-brothers over McDonalds assault
Step-brothers who went on a violent rampage at a McDonalds restaurant should not be shown any mercy, an Adelaide court has heard, given the pair have nine assault convictions between them.
Police are pushing for Demeon Magrowski and Shane Yates to be jailed for the sickening attack where they threw fists and chairs, leaving one victim with facial injuries.
Appearing in court on Tuesday, it was established the step-brothers have nine prior assault convictions between them, but neither man has been jailed.
The brutal McDonalds attack happened in front of stunned customers and staff on Adelaide's Hindley Street in June last year.
Magrowski and Yates were filmed attacking two security guards and a customer during the violent incident.
Both entered guilty pleas regarding the assault.
The pair’s lawyers have pleaded for any jail term to be suspended, claiming the men have shown their remorse.
But police prosecutor Tracy Keller says the time for mercy has passed, and urged the magistrate to put the step-brothers behind bars.
Magrowski has an appalling criminal record, dating back 24 years which includes five assault convictions.
His step-brother Yates has avoided jail despite four previous assault convictions.
The Magistrate will consider an appropriate sentence for the two men, and they’ll be back in court next month.
