Brave officer pulls man from path of speeding train

A police officer in New Jersey has been hailed a hero after pulling a man to a safety from the path of a speeding train.

The dramatic rescue reportedly took place at the Secaucus Junction station on Friday and was captured on surveillance camera.

The officer, identified as Victor Ortiz, was called to duty following reports of a confrontation on a train.

As the train arrived at the station, a man ran out of a carriage and onto the railway.

The man allegedly laid down on the train tracks, refusing to move or listen to Mr Ortiz.

Knowing a train was less than a minute away, Mr Ortiz began to drag the man off the tracks by his arm, but not without a struggle.

Determined to end his life, the man fought to stay on the ground as the train grew closer.

Finally, with only a second to spare, Mr Ortiz pulls the man to safety and the passenger train rushes past.

The police union praised the officer for his efforts on their Facebook page.

“Everyday when we put on our uniforms and go to work we do not know the situations that await us, and we must be prepared for anything,” the post read.

“We commend Officer Ortiz for his bravery and heroism!”
