Sara Connor claims she was protecting murdered Bali policeman from DJ boyfriend David Taylor

Sara Connor, the Byron Bay mum linked to the murder of a Bali policeman, has made a plea for her innocence.

According to Connor’s lawyer Erwin Siregar, the 45-year-old mum was trying to protect officer Wayan Sudarsa from British boyfriend David Taylor, reports the ABC.

"She [Sara Connor] said to me after she make a little bit of a reconstruction there [at the crime scene], only between us, 'I want to protect the victim'," Siregar told the ABC.

"'I want to separate between David Taylor and the victim and in this case I just want to protect the victim and so I am not guilty'," Siregar claimed Connor said.

Siregar also felt charges against the pair should not include murder because there was no intent to kill.

Connor and Taylor were taken for a third round of police interrogations on Thursday morning.

Mr Sudarsa was left with 17 head wounds after he was allegedly beaten to death with a pair of binoculars, a beer bottle and a mobile phone during the fight.

Police said Taylor, a British DJ, had admitted he had confronted the policeman over Connor's missing bag and confessed to attacking Sudarsa, but denied killing him.

Connor earlier told police Mr Sudarsa had bitten her on her thigh and hand when she had tried to stop the scuffle.

The Denpasar Police chief has said he hopes the case against the pair can be handed over to the prosecutor within 20 days, but police have up to 100 days to collect evidence and questions the suspects.

It is understood Connor and Taylor, who could face a maximum of 15 years' jail, first met in Byron Bay, where Connor has two children in primary school and runs a pasta-making business, while Taylor hosted a weekly radio show.
