Byron Bay mum linked to Bali cop death had left ‘quiet life’ for getaway with DJ boyfriend

Sara Connor, the mother accused of killing an Indonesian police officer with her British boyfriend last week, has been defended by a friend who describe her as being a "nurturing" person with "a huge heart".

Connor, 45, and her boyfriend David Taylor, have faced days of interrogation after they were arrested over the death of Wayan Sudarsa, whose bloodied body was found on Kuta Beach in the early hours of Wednesday last week.

Connor is a mother-of-two who owns her own fresh pasta making business. She has two little boys at Byron Bay Primary School in NSW.

It is understood Connor decided last week to leave her quiet life on the NSW coast and joined 33-year-old Taylor in Bali after his Australian visa had expired.

According to Mail Online Taylor is a DJ who goes by the name 'DJ Nutzo'.

Their getaway took a violent turn when the couple allegedly got into an argument with a police officer, Sudarsa, who was patrolling Kuta Beach.

Police claim the pair accused him of stealing Ms Connor's purse.

Sudarsa was left with 17 head wounds after he was allegedly beaten to death with a pair of binoculars, a beer bottle and a mobile phone during the fight.

The couple now face murder charges over the death.

The accusation is in stark contrast to reports of Connor's life in Byron Bay, where she sold her handmade raviolis to nearby businesses and restaurants, while working at the front desk of the Arts Factory Backpackers Lodge, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

It was here she is believed to have met Mr Taylor, who settled in Byron Bay in 2014 and hosted a radio show program called First Bass on BayFM 99.9 on Thursday nights.

Mr Taylor reportedly left Australia in July because his visa was set to expire and Ms Connor followed him, leaving her two sons with her ex-husband, Anthony Connor.

Friends claim most of the Byron Bay community were unaware of the couple's romance.

Members of the community said they ware "devastated and shocked" about the accusations towards Ms Connor, insisting they do not match the loving mother they know.

"These accusations laid against her are totally out of character for this beautiful person," her friend Sarah Mulvin told Daily Mail Australia in a statement.

"She is incredibly inclusive of everyone, making sure anyone in her company feels nurtured and cared for. She has a huge heart.

"Her love for her boys is the biggest love in her life. She is very passionate about life and exudes enthusiasm wherever she goes," Ms Mulvin added.
