Boy charged over brutal stabbing attack pleads for mum in court
The boy charged over a brutal stabbing attack that left a Sydney university student in hospital has pleaded to see his mother before being taken into custody.
Twenty-six-year-old victim Jason Drury was allegedly stabbed multiple times by the boy in a random attack, and was forced to undergo emergency surgery for a collapsed lung.
Security video has captured the moment after the boy allegedly stabbed Mr Drury five times in the stomach, back and hand outside an Ashfield takeaway shop.
Mr Drury has told police the 15-year-old pulled out a 20-centimetre blade knife and demanded cash before the attack.
He then fled the scene empty-handed.
A second victim has come forward to police, claiming the 15-year-old also threatened him with the knife.
“I just saw his hand holding a big knife and after that I don’t know what to do… I just ran away,” Manjunath Balekayi said.
Police found the schoolboy a few streets away, and confirmed he is known to officers.
Appearing in court on Wednesday, the boy sat with his head in his hands and sobbed.
No bail application was made with the 15-year-old pleading to see his mother before he was taken back into custody ahead of another hearing on Friday.
