Car dangles over edge of Sydney hospital carpark after driver 'hit wrong pedal'

A woman and her car were left dangling over the edge of a multi-storey car park at Sydney's Westmead Hospital, after a parking attempt went terribly wrong.

Emergency crews arrived at the hospital just before 8am on Wednesday to find the car's rear end hanging over the edge of the level two car park, with the female driver trapped inside.

The driver, a 50-year-old woman from Newcastle, escaped injury but is being treated for the effects of shock.

Fire crews stabilised the vehicle, pulled the woman from her car but are still working to save the Mazda sedan, a New South Wales Fire and Rescue spokeswoman told Yahoo7.

Police believe the female driver hit the wrong pedal when she was reversing into a park, which sent the vehicle into the guardrail and over the edge.

It’s believed the rear of the vehicle caught onto a fence on the other side of the car park, which prevented it from falling 3m to the lower level.
