Mum who admitted to causing her daughter's death in car crash wants to retract guilty plea

An Adelaide woman who admitted to causing her four-year-old daughter's death in a car crash while she had methamphetamine in her system says she wants to change her plea back to not guilty.

Kylie Anne Hie, 33, was charged with an aggravated count of causing death by dangerous driving after the van she was driving ran into the back of a truck on the South Eastern Freeway in November 2013, killing her daughter Charlotte.

Hie was allegedly attempting to pass the semi trailer when she crashed into it, spinning into the next lane and colliding with a second car.

Witnesses said the Adelaide mother was driving erratically before the crash, tailgating other cars before closing in on the truck.

Charlotte, who was conceived through IVF, was sitting in the front passenger seat in a car seat that wasn’t correctly fitted.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital while her mother was treated for serious injuries.

Hie, who initially denied the charge, pleaded guilty at the beginning of her SA District Court trial on Wednesday but on Thursday indicated through her lawyer that she wished to change her plea back to not guilty.

Hie's lawyer said her client would formally apply to enter a not guilty plea before Judge Paul Slattery on Friday.
