Kids witness horror 'chainsaw attack', accused denied bail

The man who allegedly broke into his ex-partner’s home and attacked her and her mother with a chainsaw has been refused bail in a NSW court.

Terrance Purvis is accused of attacking his former partner Chloe Griffiths as two terrified children watched on and young neighbours heard the screams for help.

The 30-year-old later turned himself in to the Port Macquarie Police Station just hours after the incident.

It is alleged Griffiths’ mother Julie bravely stepped in to stop the chainsaw attack and suffered severe cuts to her arms.

The 49-year-old was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital on Wednesday, due to the extent of her injuries.

“I heard chainsaw noises and then I heard a scream for help,” schoolgirl neighbour Jada Tuckwell said.

Police confirmed two children were inside the home at the time, describing the ordeal as “extremely horrifying”.

Appearing in court on Wednesday, it was established an apprehended violence order had been taken out against Purvis leading up to the attack.

Ms Griffiths was lucky not to be seriously injured and suffered bruising in the attack.

Purvis was refused bail and Wednesday and will reappear in court next month.
