Tram driver grabbed by the neck in road rage assault
A Melbourne tram driver has been left shaken after he was grabbed by the neck and almost run over in a road rage attack.
The confrontation, which happened at the corner of Toorak and Williams roads in South Yarra on Monday, was captured by a passing motorist.
The attack started when the driver got out of his tram to take down the numberplate of a motorist who refused to stop for the man’s passengers.
While the driver was outside of the tram, the attacker exited his vehicle and grabbed the driver by the neck.
He then pushes the driver away, before getting in his car, almost hitting the driver and then speeding away.
“The actions of this motorists in this footage is unacceptable,” Yarra Trams spokesperson Simon Murphy said.
“No one should have to encounter it. We attended the scene and are now providing as much support as we can for the driver back at his home.”
The driver was left shaken but otherwise uninjured in the incident.
