Former Essendon sports scientist Stephen Dank shot at in Melbourne home

A gunman is on the run after controversial sports scientist Stephen Dank was injured in a shooting at his home in Melbourne.

Mr Dank, 52, suffered a grazed forehead when several shots were fired into the property in Ascot Vale at 2.20am.

Another person in the house at the time was not injured, police said.

Mr Dank was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition and a crime scene was established at the house.

Dank was seen by many as the architect of the Essendon anti-doping violations but has maintained his innocence.

He is alleged to have administered banned peptides to teams including the Essendon Bombers and Cronulla Sharks.

He has been banned from working with the AFL and NFL.

Neighbours told 7 News they heard three shots being fire at the home overnight.

At the scene on Saturday morning, an upper level window at the property was broken and a bullet marker could be seen on the balcony, 7 News reports.
