Details revealed about the life of Joanne Lees 15 years on from Falconio murder

The woman at the centre of one of the country's most well-known murder investigations is reportedly currently living a life out of the limelight and working as a social worker.

According to the Daily Mail, Joanne Lees, who is now 42-years-old, is residing in Huddersfield, England, which is reportedly her hometown.

It has been 15 years since the ordeal that saw her then boyfriend Peter Falconio murdered and changed her life forever.

Earlier reports claim police suspect Bradley Murdoch stalked Lees and Falconio in 2001 as they toured the country in their old Kombi.

Murdoch had reportedly told the pair he had a problem with the exhaust of his four-by-four, according to The Sun.

It is thought Falconio was shot, 12km north of Barrow Creek, shortly after 8pm, before Lees was punched, had a sack put over her head and was restrained.

She managed to escape, gathering the courage to emerge from hiding in scrub, reportedly for up to five hours, to flag down a road train.

Ms Lees now leads a life out of the spotlight, working at the Directorate for Children and Young People for Kirklees Council as a social worker and has lived in a terraced house for the past eight years, the Daily Mail claims.

The Sun reports Ms Lees studied sociology at college and has had a number of jobs including working at a travel agency and now allegedly prefers to spend time on her own rather than with family and friends.

She is reportedly still in contact with the Falconio family, who live in west Yorkshire, about 11 kilometres away from Ms Lees.

Peter Falconio's family have created a memorial to him in Australia in a secret area.

His mother Joan told the Daily Mail: 'We're very pleased we have a special memorial to Peter after all this time."

"It is most fitting for our son, we chose it but have not seen it yet."
