Mehajer: AVO 'false', reality TV show keeping couple apart

Controversial former Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has hit back at claims his wife filed for an AVO against him, and says she hasn't been seen with him because the couple are due to star a reality TV series.

Mr Mehajer said police and not wife Aysha, who hasn’t been seen by her husband’s side for several months, made the AVO claim.

The AVO, filed under Aysha Mehajer’s maiden name Learmonth, is to be lodged by police at Downing Centre Local court on Wednesday.

But Mr Mehajer has disputed the AVO, saying he and his wife have been separated as part of the new TV show.

"Aysha and I are casting and preparing to be part of a TV series," Mr Mehajer told The Daily Mail Australia.

"She is currently in audition. At the moment we cannot disclose the show (or) series name."

Mr Mehajer, who told media that “only death” would part he and his wife, could not confirm whether he would have her by his side at Wednesday’s hearing.

The AVO comes after months of speculation about the couple’s relationship.

There are reports Aysha failed to show up at her birthday party, organised by Mr Mehajer and featuring rap star Tyga, and she was also absent from a pageant show her sister-in-law competed in.

She was not pictured at her sister-in-law’s bridal shower and there are reports she has moved out of the couple’s Lidcombe home.

Despite not being pictured together in recent months, Mr Mehajer has continued to share photos of the duo together on social media.

In one photo, Mr Mehajer captioned “you put a smile on my face”.

It’s just three months after Mr Mehajer was allegedly seen “screaming and yelling” at the door of the Wollongong home where his wife was staying.

The AVO has come at a busy time for the Mehajer family, who are currently planning the next biggest wedding for Sydney.

Salim’s sister Khadijeh is due to be married in the coming weeks.
