French teen killed by semi-trailer in 'freak accident' in Brisbane's north

A French teenager has been killed by a semi-trailer in what police have labelled a “freak accident” while backpacking in Queensland.

19-year-old Alixe Stoffel and her friend had been given a lift with a truck driver from Gin Gin four hours south to the northern suburbs of Brisbane.

After exiting the truck at Nudgee service station, it is believed Alixe’s bag became caught on the vehicle.

In a rush to untangle her belongings, she was hit by the truck and dragged along the ground.

CCTV shows witnesses scrambling to help, but the young tourist died at the scene.

The teen just recently posted in her travel blog that she had fallen in love with Australia and was happy to be starting her life as a young, independent woman.

Alixe’s family are making their way to Queensland and are expected to arrive in the next few days.
