A social media account which is pro-Islamic State has reportedly warned of attacks at some of the world's major airports over the 4th of July weekend.

The website SITE Intelligence Group reports the threat on the Twitter account was for attacks on planes “flying from Heathrow [Airport] to the US”

It also reportedly warned that “there will be a device placed in either Heathrow, LAX or JFK airports.”

However according to the Telegraph the claims could not be confirmed.

The Los Angeles Times also reports that authorities there also have no information that would deem the warning credible.

The publication says federal sources do not consider the threat a feasible plan capable of being carried out.

It is claimed the site which identified and reported the warning monitors the movement on extremist websites.

Earlier reports have said travellers could expect security to be tightened and longer wait times following the attack in Istanbul, which claimed more than 40 lives.
