Skydiver records terrifying moment parachute fails mid-flight
An experienced skydiver has released a heart-stopping video of the moment he lost his parachute mid-flight.
Daniel Herndon was plummeting towards a football stadium in Oklahoma City on Tuesday when the cords on his parachute became twisted.
“No, no, no,” Mr Herndon can be yelling repeatedly as he frantically tried to untangle the lines.
With the ground inching closer and time running out, he made the heart-stopping decision to release his main parachute and deploy the emergency one.
Several minutes after the terrifying close-call, Mr Herndon landed safely at Taft Stadium and delivered the soccer ball to the waiting teams.
The skydiver of seven years told local media he had performed more than 1600 jumps and had only ever abandoned his main parachute eight times
“What’s going through my mind is, ‘Oh crap! This isn’t going right,'” Herndon told WSBTV. “You really don’t have time to react. You just do what you have to do to land safely.”
He is currently searching for his main parachute and is offering a $100 reward for anybody who finds it.
