Man charged over shooting murder of Saso Ristevski

A man has been charged with the murder of Wollongong crime figure Saso Ristevski, who was shot dead in his parent’s home five years ago.

Ristevski was confronted by three men outside the Lake Heights home on September 28, 2011 when he was shot at point blank range.

Following an extensive investigation, police confirmed that a 37-year-old has been arrest in connection with the murder.

The suspect was arrested at Warrawong, in Wollongong, on Friday morning and has been charged with three counts of accessory before the fact to armed robbery with wounding.

In a subsequent search of the man’s home, police located several “items of interest”, which have been seized for further examination.

Late last year, police linked Ristevski’s murder to a Melbourne organised crime figure.

Investigators believe his death was likely the catalyst for a number of other organised crime-related incidents in the Illawarra region, including the murders of two other drug dealers.

The suspect has been refused bail.

An inmate currently serving time in a correctional centre is also expected to be charged over the murder.

More to come.
