Doting parents raise funds to give son a new pair of ears

The parents of a beautiful two-year-old boy born without ears are fundraising for reconstructive surgery to give their son a new lease on life.

Jack Robertson was born with microtia atresia, a condition that effects the formation of the outer ear and the development of the ear canal.

Jack’s parents, Ben and Amy, are the driving force behind their son’s happiness and have dedicated their lives to making sure their little boy is given the best possible care.

While the rare condition can leave sufferers with permanent hearing loss, Jack luckily still has most of his hearing.

“Amazingly Jack’s inner ears have formed and his cochlears function perfectly, however without his hearing device he hears like we hear if we put our fingers in our canals,” Mr and Mrs Robertson wrote on their son’s website.

The couple wants Jack to have the best hearing device available to assist with his early learning and speech development, and is fundraising to take him to the United States to see some of the world’s best surgeons.

But the surgery will come at a price - $13,000 for the new hearing aid and $180,000 for the reconstructive surgery.

Already the family has raised an impressive $81,500, but they still have a long way to go.

A gala dinner will be held in Jack’s honour on October 21 in Kilkenny, South Australia.

Along with pre-dinner drinks and a decadent three-course meal, special guests will be making an appearance including Australian music icon Angry Anderson.

An auction will also be held at the event, with all proceeds going towards Jack and his new ears.

“Our son needs surgery and to help Jack we will be doing some significant fundraising,” Mr and Mrs Robertson wrote. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any help and support!”
