Man 'dies, body missing' after watching poltergeist horror movie

A man’s body has reportedly gone missing after he died during a screening of James Wan’s horror movie ‘The Conjuring 2′.

An unnamed 65-year-old man and his friend reportedly went to watch the supernatural horror sequel at the Sri Balasubramaniar Cinemas in Tiruvannamalai, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

During the horror movie’s climax the man suffered from chest pains causing him to 'pass out and die', The Times of India reports.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital and he was declared dead.

In an eerie twist, it was reported when medics gave the go-ahead for the body to be taken to the Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem, the deceased man disappeared, along with the person in charge of the body.

The incident is believed to have taken place on Thursday.

The case has sparked a number of other highly questionable claims, that have gone viral in the wake of a social media-led panic.

Facebook user, Damian Ng Yih Leong, claimed to have ‘discovered’ a cross on his hotel mirror after watching the film.

He and a friend returned to their hotel room at about 2.30am after reportedly watching the movie in Malaysia to find a cross drawn on the mirror in the toilet.

"It was freshly drawn, as I could see water creeping down on one side of the cross, and the stain is still fresh," Leong wrote.

The friends claimed they were so freaked out, that they requested a room change.

The Conjuring 2 story is based on “The Enfield Poltergeist,” which allegedly bedeviled the home of Peggy Hodgson in Enfield, England, from 1977-1979.

Single mother of four, Peggy reported that on the night of August 30, 1977, she heard strange noises coming from her children’s rooms.

Her 11-year-old daughter Janet claimed the beds were moving on their own.

The next day, another disturbance from the children’s bedroom panicked the family, who claimed a dresser began repeatedly moving toward the door, as if to trap everyone inside.

Apparently Peggy and neighbours witnessed a chair 'levitating', lego blocks flying, furniture being overturned and Janet speaking in a low, growly voice while claiming to be possessed by the residence’s former owner.

During a behind-the-scenes interview to promote The Conjuring 2, Janet recalled some of her terrifying experiences, including one occasion where a curtain wrapped itself around her neck.

“My brother and I were laying in bed and we were chatting like we normally did. We turned the light out and settled down to go to sleep and we could hear this shuffling noise near the bedroom door,” she said.

“The chest of drawers started shuffling and moved towards the door and me and my brother Johnny sat up and we were really frightened.

“Mum came in and turned the light on and said ‘what’s all this noise about’ and we said ‘Mum, Mum, the chest of drawers is moving towards the doorway’.”

“She pushed it back and then it started to shuffle out again and she couldn’t push it back.”
