'Thugs in the dark' leave Australian Greens candidate's daughter terrified after late night raid on his home

A Greens candidate in the federal election says a group of 'thugs in the dark' left his young daughter terrified as they shouted abuse at his home and tore down election signage outside.

Scott Jordan, who is standing for the seat of Braddon in next month’s election, said several men came to his home on Saturday and confronted the 15 year old girl.

The incident occurred just two days after British Labour MP Jo Cox was stabbed and shot in broad daylight in attacked believed to be linked to extreme right wing political views.

“Several men came to my home tonight, tore down signage from my yard and after being told by my fifteen year old daughter that I was not home, proceeded to yell at the house in a manner aimed at intimidating a teenage girl who is not on any ballot paper,” Mr Scott wrote on Facebook.

“Two nights ago a British MP was shot.

"Democracy should be passionate. It should be earnest. It should be contested with vigor.

"It should not be thugs in the dark terrifying a fifteen year old.”

Mr Scott used the post to thank police officers who he said responded quickly to reports.

He said his daughter had sat in a hallway with the lights turned off, terrified by what was happening outside before police arrived.

It is believed the people responsible have been cautioned by police.
