Streets delcared safe after police assess suspected pipe bomb
Streets in a suburb of north Melbourne are now safe after police closed the area over a suspected pipe bomb earlier this morning.
The suspicious device was found at a property on the corner of Robin Ave and Swallow Crescent in Norlane after police arrived with a search warrant at around 8am.
A member from the Bomb Squad Unit of Victoria Police in heavy armour inspected the suspected device after a robot pulled the device from the car.
Detectives without armour examine remnants of the device after police set off their own explosion to assess its contents.
An X-ray indicated no internal mechanism.
“We located a device in a vehicle in a private driveway that may be an explosive device,” Detective Sergeant Robert Wilby said earlier.
A man in his 30s is being questioned by police.
