John Chardon 'smiling' as he is charged over wife Novy's murder

John Chardon has been arrested and charged with murder more than three years after his wife Novy went missing from their Upper Coomera home.

The mother of two hasn't been seen since February 2013.

A lengthy investigation led to the arrest of the 68-year-old on Friday morning.

Chardon was smiling as he was taken to the Brisbane watch house where he was charged.

On the night of Wednesday, February 6, 34-year-old Novy stopped at a service station, returned to her Upper Coomera home and then mysteriously vanished.

Novy has been described by her family as energetic and full of life, the beautician and qualified accountant last spoke to her mother two days before she went missing.

Two days after Novy disappeared, John Chardon travelled to Indonesia with their children for a business trip.

When he returned almost two weeks later, he was interviewed by police for several hours but released without charge.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday Detective Superintendent Dave Hutchinson said her disappearance had seen police officers and detectives from the Gold Coast and the State Crime Command Homicide Investigation Squad work together in a relentless pursuit of justice for Mrs Chardon and her loved ones.

“Today we see the culmination of the hard work done by all officers involved in this investigation. There have been thousands of hours spent by investigators, intelligence officers and forensic specialists to try and bring closure to Mrs Chardon’s loved ones with the charging of a man today,” said Detective Superintendent Hutchinson.

Mrs Chardon's body hasn't been found.

More to come.
