'6000 litres' of diesel spills into Sydney Harbour

A contractor’s mistake is allegedly responsible for a spill that has dumped thousands of litres of diesel into a Sydney Harbour marina.

The spill occurred at the D'Albora Marinas in Rushcutters Bay, authorities were alerted about 8pm Tuesday.

Sydney’s Port Authority and the NSW Environment Protection Authority were reportedly working to manage the spill by using floating booms and other equipment.

Investigations into the cause of the diesel spill are continuing.

A spokesman for D'Albora told Fairfax that close to 6000 litres had spilled from a diesel tank.

The leak reportedly started after a line was accidentally cut.

Most of the diesel spilled on to the marina’s surface and was contained to a pontoon, however some of it did end up in the water.

Fairfax reported the contractors were working on a decommissioned diesel tank at the site.

A line connected to an operating tank was accidentally cut, leading to the spill into the surrounding area.

The spokesman for D'Albora said they planned to cover the cost of the clean up and any damage to boats.

It’s unknown how much marine life has been affected.
