'It was gross and disgusting': Brisbane man finds 'colony of insects' inside packet of Coles pasta

A disgruntled Coles customer was repulsed to find a 'colony of insects' living inside a bag of unopened dry pasta.

Masood Rahimi was preparing lunch for his six guests when he noticed something dark moving around inside the bag from the corner of his eye.

Upon giving the bag a shake Mr Rahimi says he found the insects squirming around inside the 500g bag of Coles 100% Durum Wheat Bowties on Saturday.

The 29-year-old from Brisbane told Yahoo7 he quickly grabbed his camera to record his moment of disgust.

He said the pasta was purchased from Newfarm Coles located in Newstead last week.

“It was really gross and disgusting,” he said adding it made him feel ill.

“I didn’t want to look at it."

Mr Rahimi decided to record the creatures crawling around inside the pasta he was going to use to serve guests.

In the video, he points toward the best before date - October 14, 2017 - before shaking the bag to show it is sealed and has not been tampered with.

Within a few seconds, a group of squirming insects drop to the bottom of the bag.

“What the f*** is that,” one person yells in the background.

Mr Rahimi shook the bag again in an attempt to show that there were more bugs hiding among the pasta.

The disgusted customer said he doesn’t want to eat pasta again and claims he ate the same sort a week earlier and feels sick at the thought he may have eaten bugs.

Mr Rahimi took his frustration to the Coles Facebook page and posted the video on Sunday.

He said someone from Coles commented on his post a few hours after he uploaded it onto Facebook telling him to give them my number via direct message.

Mr Rahimi directly messaged Coles on Facebook and gave them his contact details but says he is yet to receive a reply.

“In my opinion they can’t block the video and wanted to act like they were respectful when they don’t care at all,” he told Yahoo7.

“They want to show the public they were nice, relatively they didn’t do any action.”

The annoyed customer isn’t sure what he should do and said he “doesn’t want to shop at Coles anymore.”

“I was going to Coles because I am familiar with them, not through experience and have realised some brands pay a little more to get the better quality,” he said.

“I hope they don’t treat anybody like this and learn to be more careful with the product.”

A Coles spokeswoman told Yahoo7 they were working with the customer to investigate the issue.

“Coles aims to stock food of the highest quality and we take any complaints from our customers seriously," she said.

"We have contacted the customer and are currently investigating the matter.”
