As he underwent hours of delicate surgery, his parents Mandy Oussounis and Steve Cotteril were being put up in Ronald McDonald House and had received amazing support from locals, including a bag of new toys and clothes for their children.

But as the couple spoke to the media of their son’s plight on Thursday, those much-needed goods, as well as Ms Oussounis’ handbag, were stolen from their room.

They have made a formal complaint and are now being put up in alternative accommodation by a community support group.

Austin’s supporters told 7 News they were extremely angry and disappointed, especially given the family had lost all their belongings in the fire.
