Nominations open for 2016 Melbourne Awards

Nominations are open for the City of Melbourne’s prestigious Melbourne Awards: an annual event that recognises organisations and individuals who have made a positive and invaluable contribution to the world’s most liveable city.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said the awards, now in their 14th year, are a wonderful way to highlight the achievements and service of inspirational Melburnians.

“Melbourne is the most liveable city in the world and that’s because of the extraordinary contributions of our many talented people,” the Lord Mayor said.

“The Melbourne Awards celebrate the inspirational achievements of those people and organisations who dedicate their time and energy for the benefit of our great city.”

The Lord Mayor will bestow the title of Melburnian of the Year on one outstanding individual.

“The Melburnian of the Year award is the city’s highest individual accolade,” Cr Doyle said.

“The calibre of our Melburnians of the year is evidenced when we look to past winners. Chief Executive Officer and founder of Wintringham Specialist Aged Care, Bryan Lipmann AM is the reigning Melburnian of the Year and other recent recipients include Major Brendan Nottle of the Salvation Army, music pioneer Michael Gudinski AM and leading research scientist Professor Sharon Lewin."

This year’s awards will also honour four community organisations and four corporations for their outstanding contributions to Melbourne’s profile, to the community, to environmental sustainability and to multiculturalism.

An independent judging panel of industry leaders and Melbourne personalities will determine this year’s Melbourne Awards recipients. Winners will be announced at a Gala Ceremony at Melbourne Town Hall on Saturday 12 November.

Nominations for the 2016 Melbourne Awards are open until Monday 6 June.
