A video has emerged of a Saudi man, who is reportedly a family therapist, outlining ways to 'discipline' a wife in accordance with Islam, according to online sources.

A translation of the show reportedly begins with the man, Khaled Al-Saqaby, saying he will speak about "wife beating".

"I am aware that this issue is a thorny one, which contains many hazards, but Allah willing, we will cross this bridge safely," he says.

"I believe that the problem arises when husbands do not understand how to deal with disobedience," he reportedly says.

He reportedly urges men not to physically abuse their wives and says talking should be the first step when trying to discipline your spouse, according to the Daily Mail.

"First, remind her of your rights and of her duties, according to Allah."

Khaled Al-Saqaby then says the second stage is "forsaking her (in bed)" which he then reportedly follows up with by saying "which means that you should stay in bed with her, but turn your back to her, or else sleep in a separate bed in the same room."

The third stage he reportedly says is "the issue of beating". He advises, "The necessary Islamic conditions for beating must be met."

He says this should not be done with a sharp object, headband or rod. Instead that it be carried out with a toothpick or handkercheif, "because the goal is merely to make the wife feel that she was wrong in the way she treated her husband."

The therapist then reportedly goes on to say that sometimes a wife might hit her husband.

"Unfortunately, some wives want to live a life of equality with their husband" he reportedly says.

"This is a very grave problem."

The footage was recorded in February this year.
