Motorbike rider stunned after speeding police cars almost knock him off his bike... twice!

Two Highway Patrol cars have been caught on camera narrowly missing a motorbike rider in Sydney's south-west.

On a dark stretch of road at Oran Park, a group of friends were enjoying a late-night ride – until it was almost put to an end by a speeding police car.

Witnesses said the police were exceeding the speed limit and seemed to be involved in a pursuit, although they didn't have their sirens on, or lights flashing.

Another rider captured the scene on Camden Valley Way on video and watched in horror as the patrol vehicle squeezed between the two riders, barely giving any room to the leading driver.

Not wanting to be identified, one witness said the car came far too close for comfort.

“All it took was my mate to merge a little bit sooner and he would've been collected by highway patrol,” he told 7 News.

“He came within like an inch of him.”

While the rider was still stunned by what had just happened, a second police car suddenly appears, putting the man’s life at risk again.

“He was kind of shaken up a bit,” the man said of his friend.

“If it had lights and sirens on it would've been alright so we could move out of the way in time.”

The riders say they were travelling at the 80 kilometre per hour limit and are disgusted over the behaviour of the officers.

“I would like an apology from police actually, it'd be good."

“If it was a cop in my position, a car going past at that speed, he would've lost his license on the spot, car impounded, whole lot.”

Stewart Nicholls from Drive to Survive reviewed the footage and said it was a dangerous move.

“The manoeuvre the police officer did is what we call an accident avoidance where you're actually swerving around an object at speed, you can get that wrong very easily,” he said.

The expert said while highway patrol officers are trained to drive at excessive speeds, this is simply not right.

“The police aren't above the law, they too have to adhere to the road rules,” Mr Nicholls said.

Police have viewed the video and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the near-miss.

They are also trying to establish where the officers were heading.
