Mr Wood hoped to find the Good Samaritan who dragged him to safety, but left before he could thank him.

"I'd love to find out who he is and shake his hand. That'd be good," he told 7 News.

His mother Mary Townsend said hearing the news of the incident was "a mother's worst nightmare", but was grateful for the mystery man who potentially saved her son's life.

"I wish i could find him, I hope he comes forward," she said.

"I want to see this guy, he saved my sons life basically.

"I think that if wasn't for him I don't think Chris would've been able to get up on that platform.

"Makes me really sad cause I know it could've been a lot worse. A mothers worst nightmare."
