Newcastle mother charged for filming daughter's abuse, sharing videos online
A Newcastle mother has been arrested for allegedly recording the sexual assault of a young girl and uploading the videos to a paedophile website.
The videos were discovered by US-based Interpol officers who were monitoring a paedophile website and recognised the accents as being Australian, Fairfax Media reports.
The Newcastle office of the Child Abuse Squad arrested the 29-year-old mother in March following the international hunt for an abused Australian child.
The mother was taken to a Hunter-region police station and will remain behind bars until she appears at a Newcastle local court in May.
It is alleged the woman sexually assaulted the young girl who is now aged seven.
It is unclear how old she was in the videos.
The mother faces three counts of inciting an aggravated act of indecency, and one count each of using a child to produce child abuse material and disseminating child abuse material, the publication reports.
The name and address of the woman who has been charged will not be released because it would identify her alleged victim.
A NSW police spokesperson told Yahoo7 the matter is now before the courts and said they are unable to comment on this particular case but claim they are regularly conducting online operations that target and exploit children.
“Police conduct regular operations online to detect, identify and locate people who are involved in the online exploitation and abuse of children and share that information with other agencies so offenders can be arrested and charged," the statement read.
The police force said they have tracked down a large number of child sex offenders internationally by working with other agencies who also run online covert operations.
“While the internet creates many opportunities for child predators to target children and connect with other offenders, it also presents many opportunities for police to detect and target them," the statement said.
“Every child exploitation image is child abuse - a child has been abused or exploited to create that image.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
