'Mini-Godzilla' marine iguana filmed in incredible underwater feeding session
A six-foot-long marine iguana dubbed 'mini-Godzilla' has been filmed grazing underwater in the Pacific Ocean near the Galapagos Islands.
Videographer Steve Winkworth recorded the incredible footage of the graceful creature swimming slowly through the water and foraging on algae on the sea floor.
The massive reptile surfaces for air, before gracefully descending into the depths to continue feeding.
Despite being surrounded by divers, the giant lizard appears to be completely relaxed and oblivious to the cameras.
The video was taken several months ago at a dive site off Isabela Island, but has recently gained thousands of views within the past few days, baffling Mr Winkworth.
"I'm not sure what's driving the traffic but it's nice to see that people apparently like it," he wrote on Facebook.
Social media users were stunned by the video, many making references to a 'baby Godzilla'.
"From behind the safety of my computer screen, its surely adorable. If i were in the water though, nope nope nope nope," one Reddit user wrote.
"Now i know whats a baby godzilla look like! " another said.
Another clip of Mr Winkworth's was recently sold to National Geographic and features an octopus being eaten by a numbray, a type of electric ray found only in Australia.
