Accused balcony killer to face trial in October over Tinder date death
The man accused of murdering a New Zealand tourist during a Tinder date on the Gold Coast, is set to face trial in October.
Gable Tostee is accused of murdering Warreina Wright after she fell to her death from his Surfers Paradise apartment in August 2014.
The pair had met through dating app Tinder.
Ms Wright was on the Gold Coast for a friend's wedding.
Tostee had previously bragged online about sleeping with 150 women.
It was alleged he recorded most of the night on his phone and police alleged he could be heard locking Ms Wright out.
Police alleged Ms Wright feared Tostee would kill her, so she attempted to climb to a lower balcony but slipped and fell 14 floors to her death.
Two weeks have been set aside for the trial, which will begin in Brisbane’s Supreme Court on October 31.
Tostee was released from prison in August 2015, after he served six months behind bars over a drunken police chase unrelated to the alleged balcony murder.
Part of his bail conditions ban him from using Tinder or other social media platforms to meet women.
He must also face random breath testing and seek treatment for alcohol issues.
The court has also placed him under a curfew.
Last year when Tostee was released on parole he shared a meme of Arnold Schwarznegger smoking a cigar, with the words “I’m back”.
Tostee has since changed his name to Eric Thomas by deed poll, however he will face court under his previous name.
