Experts stumped by monster sea creature spotted in River Thames
Footage of a huge, mystery sea creature swimming in the River Thames has baffled marine experts who admit they have no idea what the animal could be.
A passenger on a cable car in Greenwich recorded the video out of the window, capturing a large mass moving under the surface.
Two fins appear to break the surface, as if the creature is coming up for air, before the dark shape disappears beneath the murky depths.
Ian Tokelove from the London Wildlife Trust said the animal is yet to be identified.
“We are not aware of anything that large and moving in the Thames,” he told the Standard.
“We had a good look at the footage but it isn’t clear enough to make out what we are looking at.”
Some viewers of the footage joked that the Loch Ness Monster had taken a holiday to England, while others thought the shapes could be a whale or a submarine.
Although whales have been seen in the Thames before, sightings are rare.
