75-year-old man pins down armed Geelong bank robber
A mystery hero in his seventies has foiled a violent bank robbery in Geelong.
CCTV shows a man and woman, wearing balaclavas, marching straight to a bank teller and threatening staff with a sawn-off shotgun and a screwdriver.
But within seconds a brave 75-year-old customer, who had been waiting in the queue, intervenes, tackling one thief and forcing the other to flee, despite being threatened with a shotgun.
Grabbing the woman the unknown man refuses to let her go even when she orders her partner to shoot him.
Agitated and waving his shotgun in the air, the robber quickly backs away and runs away empty handed, in a light coloured Commodore.
Today the mystery hero was the talk of the town.
“He needs a medal that bloke good on him, well done!” one resident said.
The gunman is still on the run and police are warning the public not to approach him, if he is sighted, as it is likely he is armed and dangerous.
The 29-year-old woman accused of being his accomplice has been arrested and charged with armed robbery and firearms offences.
