Left hanging: Wall climbing instructor fired for texting while four-year-old cried

A careless climbing instructor has been fired after she was filmed failing to come to the aid of a crying four-year-old girl because she was too busy ‘playing’ on her mobile phone.

The instructor’s actions, or rather inaction were captured on the phone of the young girl’s mother and then posted onto social media.

The irate mother posted the message along with the 56-second clip: "My daughter is crying up there and she is ON HER PHONE TEXTING!!!" the mother said in a post.

Ignored by the instructor, the four-year-old girl appears to be stuck on the wall, understandably panicked and begins crying for help.

However, video shows the instructor seemingly ignoring her pleas for assistance and continues unfazed playing with her phone instead.

The mother who filmed the footage has been criticised for not coming to the assistance of her daughter when she was in need instead choosing to continue filming the event.

“I don't mind the negative comments all about me being a bad mom:). It's from people who just observe from afar and don't know you as a person:),” the mother wrote in a Facebook post.

“All I know is that without my video she would still be employed working with young children....... NAMASTE. MY SOUL STILL HONORS YOUR SOUL”.

In response to the disturbing incident Funtopia Surrey –the centre where the incident occurred- posted the following message to Facebook: “The parent showed us this video yesterday. Its really disturbing and definitely not normal.“

“This particular employee has broke at least 3 internal rules, starting with no phones outside of the employees room. I can assure you that she will not work a single minute more in our location.”

According to the Vancouver Sun the Surrey business says it has fired the employee since the footage surfaced.

The mother believes the little climber will bounce back according to Vancitybuzz.

She told the outlet she doesn’t have any problem with Funtopia, now they have put a stop to the instructor’s behaviour.

“I am not saying it’s a good thing the instructor is fired,” she said.

“But I am sure she has learned her lesson for her next employment. She will have to earn back trust.”
