The unsuspecting beachgoer is forced to helplessly watch and wait as the ominous shadow approaches, during a paddle at Panama City Beach pier in Florida.

“It’s coming towards you. It’s right there, it’s right there. Look out! “nearby children shout in fear as the giant creature swims right up to the kayaker.

But terror soon turns to relief when the paddler learns the large shark is merely just curious and soon decides it is uninterested and veers off in the opposite direction.

Lucky for the paddler, the shark in question was a basking shark, which are not considered a threat to humans

The basking shark is the second largest of its species, and can reach up to 11 metres.

Despite their size they can leap clear of the water, but they get their name because they bask on the surface. They swim by moving their entire bodies from side to side, not just their tails like other sharks.
