Couple witness Australia's largest snake feast on an entire kangaroo

Incredible footage shows a huge five-metre-long snake devouring a lifeless kangaroo, in its entirety.

The remarkable snake feast happened just metres from a campsite where people were enjoying a North Queensland holiday.

The snake, which appears to be an amethystine python, was found at a family caravan park in Cooktown.

The python is Australia’s largest species of snake, with the largest recorded at about eight metres long.

When travellers found it, they were surprised to see a kangaroo hanging from its mouth.

Slowly but surely, the hungry reptile disjointed its body to devour the marsupial.

Its body can be seen expanding to make room for the roo.

Helen Smart, who filmed the footage, said she found the snake at the back of her caravan.

“I’m whispering because you can see it’s eating a kangaroo,” she can be heard saying in the video.

“Oh my god, it's so big, it's humongous... poor little kangaroo.”

About 90 seconds into the footage, Ms Smart moves to stand side-on with the snake.

By this point, only the tail of the roo can be seen sticking out.

“My husband walked around the back of our caravan and almost fell over the python,” Ms Smart told Daily Mail.

“We had no idea it was there up until that point”.

The couple have two little dogs and said they were relieved they didn’t become a snake’s meal.

FEASTS OF NATURE

Not for the faint hearted, this crocodile play date resulted in one of them eating the other's arm.

This feast was survival of the fittest as the snake with the bigger appetite won out and ate their mate.

This venomous brown snake was no match for a tiny daddy long legs who took it down quite easily.
