Teen critical after being struck by garbage truck south of Melbourne

A teenage girl has been airlifted to hospital after she was struck by a garbage truck south-east of Melbourne.

A police spokesman said the 17-year-old girl was hit about 8.10am on the corner of Cranbourne-Frankston Road and Long Street, at Langwarrin.

The driver of the truck, a 54-year-old Frankston man, is in custody and assisting investigators with their enquiries.

The Cranbourne teen was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

A Victorian Ambulance spokesman said the girl was treated at the scene and flown to hospital with abdomen, pelvis and leg injuries.
